Recipes for audiobook listeners

Hi there, love the books!

I listen to the audiobooks and just finished Dead to the Last Drop.

Are the recipes available somewhere for audiobook listeners?

Thanks in advance!!

Can't wait for the next book!

Cleo's reply:

First of all, THANK YOU sincerely for the lovely note about our work. Marc and I truly appreciate it.

For new readers to this message board, our Coffeehouse Mysteries are fun murder mysteries, and they are also culinary mysteries with recipes as an added bonus.

Our hardcover and paperback editions (and ebook editions) are able to accomodate the recipes we publish.

As you know, our audiobooks are not actually books--or at least they shouldn't be thought of that way. They are dramatic productions (like theatrical productions) with a talented actress performing the roles of the characters through voice work.

In reply to your question: the recipes on this website, at my recipe blog (CleoCoyleRecipes.com) and through my Coffeehouse Mystery Newsletter are there to encourage community. They also serve as "bonus" recipes for our audiobook readers. Marc and I hope you enjoy them and will subscribe to our free Newsletter so you don't miss new recipes when we publish them. Subscribe by clicking here.

That said, as you mentioned, many of our recipes are only available through our published books (hardcover, paperback, and ebook editions). Marc and I often hear from readers who purchase our books in hardcover as collector's items and again in paperback to keep in their kitchens! Ebook readers often do the same, so they'll have a physical book to keep the recipes handy. It's an honor to hear this, and my husband and I are grateful to these incredibly supportive readers. We would encourage you to do the same.

I'm sure you've seen the hard work we put into our Free Illustrated Recipe Guides. If not, click here to see our Free Checklist of Titles (Books in Order) that includes links to many of these free guides.

These guides should give you a sense of what recipes you may want and you can purchase those books as Keepers. Our hope is that you will enjoy the books and the recipes for years to come.

Thank you sincerely for dropping by our message board, and we hope you'll keep in touch!

Decaffeinated Coffee Plants - CLEO REPLIED

Dear "Cleo,"

Thinking perhaps your Decaffeinated Corpse plot was entirely fiction, I did a Google search for "coffee decaffeinated plant breeding" and struck gold. Also discovered the WCR ("World Coffee Research") site. Since plants and plant breeding are long-time interests, I've just spent an enjoyable few hours...

Thanks for opening up a side of the coffee "industry" I'd never noticed before!

...you probably don't want anonymous posts...

I'm a nun in Upstate NY;
Mother Raphaela,
Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery, Otego

Cleo's reply -

Dear Mother Raphaela,

Thank you so very much for taking the time and trouble to drop by my message board. I'm honored for the kind comment. (A beloved aunt of mine spent her life as a nun with the Sisters Divine Providence in Pittsburgh, PA.) So you can see why I'm especially delighted to know that you read and enjoyed my work.

Decaffeinated Corpse was a pleasure to research. At the time, I wrote it (with my husband and partner in crime-writing), decaffeinated coffee plants were still in their experimental stages. Flash forward to today, and this piece of botanical "science fiction" is finally a reality. The research also involved a trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden for background, which was a real pleasure, and I highly recommend it!

Love and blessings to you. I hope you'll continue to read and enjoy my books, and keep in touch!

Thank you! - Haunted Bookshop - CLEO REPLIED

I finally got around to reading Haunted Bookshop Mysteries a little bit ago, and I pretty much read a book a day. Stories are some of the most reliable sources of joy in my life, and I absolutely loved HBM!

Thank you for not giving up on the series; I know it can get difficult to keep going when a lot of people start getting impatient/disappointed with the wait.

Writing is tough, though, and if you say you're working on the next book, then I'll trust that the wait is not in vain, even if it's a long one. Again, thank you for giving us such a wonderful series. We eagerly await the next book, whenever its release shall be!

-- Sincerely, an overworked student.

Cleo's reply -

Thank you, "overworked student"! Marc and I can't stop writing these books, because, frankly, Jack won't stop haunting us--and we hope he'll never stop haunting you, either.

Thank you so very much for stopping by to let us know how much you enjoyed our Haunted world. And thanks especially for understanding about the wait, and the fact that writers aren't robots. (Okay, granted, some writers do approach their work that way, but we don't believe it does the reader justice...or the writer, not in the end.)

Your patience and understanding do you great credit. We appreciate it, and so do Penn and Jack.

Our spirited good wishes to you.
We hope you'll keep in touch!

Coffee recommendations

I realize this is about your books, but it would be awesome to have a page on your website that has coffee roasters/houses to try.

Cleo's reply -

You can see many of my past "Coffee Picks," which include roasters, by scrolling all the way down the right column of this website.

Look for the coffee beans (as pictured below) in the right column and the words "AND NOW FOR SOME OF CLEO'S PAST COFFEE PICKS" -- below that you will see some wonderful coffees. While some of these are no longer available for sale, many are. And you will get a sense of some of the roasters my husband and I have tried and enjoyed.

Thanks for dropping by the message board
and may you drink with joy!

Coffee making question

I have just read all of your coffee house books and I LOVE them.

As a relatively new coffee drinker, I have learned a tremendous amount - I am now hand grinding my beans rather than using a spice grinder! But what is the best method for making coffee for one person ( a relatively large cup)? There are so many devices out there...

Cleo's reply -

First of all, thank you so much for the kind note. Marc, my husband (and partner and crime writing) are always appreciative of readers like you, who stop by our board to let us know that you are enjoying our work. It makes our day, and we hope you continue to read and enjoy the books.

As far as a device for making a single cup, that is something you will need to decide, based on what appeals to you. There are plenty of variables to weigh. By trial and error, however, you'll find a solution...

There are small stovetop espresso makers, for instance, for those who enjoy a strong espresso-style coffee. Small French presses (aka coffee presses) are available if you prefer that method (and taste). Or you might want to purchase a small drip maker or the kind of single-serving coffee maker that allows you to grind your own beans and place it in a single-serve pod. (That's really the best way to go for quality and value if you're talking single-serve convenience.) Finally, there are small pour-over filters you can place over a signle cup. So, you see, the solution is up to you. Whatever suits your taste buds and your lifestyle, whatever brings you joy...that's your best cup.

Thanks again for stopping by...

Keep reading and keep in touch!

Haunted Bookstore series

When will the next Haunted Bookshop Mystery come out?... I'm about to give up on this series.

Cleo's reply - No need to give up. Marc and I are turning in the next book in the Haunted Bookshop Mysteries to our publisher this year, and we have several more in the works after that.

Our publisher will be setting the final pub date later this year. And when I know, I'll let you know, but it's on the way, at last, and Marc and I thank you and all of the Haunted Bookshop Mystery fans for your patience.

No doubt about it - Jack is coming back.

Newly Addicted

I began with "On What Grounds" (book 1) in May, and I've just started "Holiday Buzz" (book 12). I am having such a great time reading this wonderful series.

In the future, I am hoping that Joy will open a restaurant that will only serve delicious healthy meals, so that every choice will be the right choice. I can't find such a place in real life so I hope to enjoy it vicariously with a good mystery.

Cleo's reply:

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to drop by my message board and let me know that you are enjoying my books. I truly appreciate it!

As for Joy, there is an important development in her life, which you'll read about in my upcoming Coffeehouse Mystery #15, DEAD TO THE LAST DROP, publishing this December. Click here to learn more about the new entry.

Drop back again and let me know. In the meantime, I hope you'll keep reading...and keep in touch.
