Reading your Good books

I started 'reading Your Jack and Penny books.! I am a supernatural fan. Then I finally tried the Coffee house books. Now I am ready to Try Murder by Mocha! These books actually got me to read something that is not supernatural or sci-fi!

Book series

I just read all your books in the last month. I so enjoyed them and learned a great deal more about coffee which I absolutely love. I wish there were 18 more already. I am starting on your bookshop series. Thank you so much for many hours of wonderful enjoyment, Penny

My First Audio book in Awhile

For the first time in decades I tried an audio book, Brewed Awakening. I have read and enjoyed all of your Claire Cosi novels at least once. I tried Kindle Unlimited during this Pandemic and the results were mixed. Some were good and some not so good, but I enjoy cozy mysteries. After listening to Brewed Awakening I really noticed the difference in the quality of writing! La tua scrittura è superba! I have just one small suggestion. Please teach your reader how to pronounce "Nonna." The first syllable sounds like NO, or maybe that's my Napolitano pronounciation.

Clare's Brooklyn Blackout Cake

I am reading Murder By Mocha. This is my first book of yours and I'm enjoying it. I like the recipes in the back, but I would like the recipe for the above cake which is mentioned at the end of the book. Also, how do I get recipes off your website?

New books? - Yes, Cleo replied

Hello Cleo, I remember the first book of the coffeehouse mysteries. I was sitting in a coffeeshop in Campbell CA reading it. I have enjoyed every one since. Will you be adding to the series?

Diabetic recipes? please

I love your books and the recipes but can't use them as I'm a diabetic. Please some of those so I can enjoy the goodies?

Cleo's reply: Hi, there. I'm so happy to know that you're enjoying my books. Thank you! I have shared many diabetic-friendly recipes in the past (delicious vegetable side dishes and savory meat dishes), but when it comes to desserts, I do not use artificial sweeteners. You can try converting my higher-GI recipes (that call for ingredients like sugar and chocolate) using low GI sweetners and substitutions (that is, if you use those products in your own diet). I also have a book to suggest to you. The book is by Dr. Jason Fung (a kidney doctor who grew frustrated with watching his type 2 diabetic patients decline in health after they came to him in very bad shape, usually with kidney failure, and that's why he began looking for solutions). Click here to learn about how this doctor has found great success in reversing type 2 diabetes.

In the meantime, I wish you joy and good health.

Reader update

I'm glad that you are alright in this difficult time. I've been dealing with the pandemic from Italy. My dad ended up in the hospital just days before we were to return from visiting family and vacation August 2019 and have been stuck since. This pandemic has impeded our return to the States (Ohio). The light in the darkness has been my reading... [I am] currently enjoying On What Grounds and plan to continue Coffeehouse Mystery series to get me through self-isolation.

Cleo's reply:

Rosa, I'm very glad that our books are bringing you some entertainment during a difficult time. I'm so sorry to hear about your father. Here in Queens, New York, we are doing our best to stay safe from day to day and focus on our writing. (Earning a living is more important than ever for every author out there, especially with the shut-down economy.)

My husband and I are now finishing up our new Haunted Bookshop Mystery, The Ghost and the Haunted Portrait, which is coming out at the end of the year. We'll have more news soon on our upcoming Haunted Bookshop (aka Jack and Pen) book as well as our next Coffeehouse Mystery, which is scheduled for release next year (2021). Thank you sincerely for checking in with us and for your thoughts and prayers. We send our very best to you in Italy and hope and pray that you can make it back safely to Ohio.

Latte Trouble Kindle in the UK?

Latte Trouble Kindle not available in the UK?

Can this be solved? I would rather not read your excellent series out of order. Rupert

Latte Trouble
Coffeehouse Mystery #3
by Cleo Coyle

To learn more,

Cleo's reply:

Hello, Rupert, thank you for your question. Latte Trouble *should* be available in the UK in every format, including Kindle!

Let Amazon UK's Customer Service know that the author assured you (here in NYC, USA) that there is a problem on their end of things, not ours (how frustrating for you). Latte Trouble by Cleo Coyle should be available for purchase on Kindle in the UK as every other book in our 18-title Coffehouse Mystery series is. Our publisher is Penguin Random House, and they have world rights to all titles. It is on sale in the Kindle format here in the United States, and it should be available to you that way in the UK, as well.

Again, the problem is on Amazon UK's end of things, and I hope you can work with them to bring their attention to this. As we are in a hot zone here in NYC, this kind of problem won't be resolved via our publisher until our emergency is over.

Thank you for reading our series. Marc and I appreciate it, and we hope you won't be discouraged. I promise you that we write our books so that they *can* be read out of order. We never allow our readers to feel lost in our back-stories, which means I encourage you to jump forward to Coffeehouse Mystery #4 MURDER MOST FROTHY. You will certainly enjoy it and not feel any gap in understanding what's happening in our characters' lives.

God bless and keep everyone in the UK safe, including yourself. May reading bring you comfort and joy, Rupert, and keep in touch!

With much love,

Chicken Soup

I have not had very good luck with making soup but I made your Chicken Soup recipe and it was very good. I did add noodles because I'm a big fan of anything with noodles. It was so good I will be making it again. I also love your Coffee House mystery books. I finish reading the last one that came out (Brewed Awakening) and can't wait for the next one. Be safe with this Coronavirus. JoAnn

Cleo's reply:

Thank you, JoAnn! We are in a hot zone here in Queens, New York, and we appreciate your good wishes. We send our very best to you, as well, stay safe and be well!

With this coronavirus pandemic happening in the US, I hope you guys and your family are safe and healthy. I keep hearing New York has been hit hard, but everyday I keep checking on updates everyday on site to know that you both are still alive and staying healthy. Thoughts and prayers go out to NYC. Cleo's reply: Thank you, Rosa!

Marc and I are still here in Queens, New York, and doing our best to stay safe. This is a hot zone with a high number of people testing positive for Covid-19. It is hitting us all very hard as we watch our neighbors suffer with this. We thank you for your prayers for NYC. We need them! We pray for you, as well, and the rest of the country, and the world.

Need Large Print copies for Library

Need Large Print Copies for Library

Whitman County Library in Colfax, Washington has a request from two retirement communities in Whitman County for the coffeehouse mysteries in large print format. I'm having difficulty finding some of the titles. Do they all come in that format? The library is a smaller rural library with 13 small town branches. We have the series in regular print, but are looking to purchase the entire series in large print. Help! Thank you for any assistance in our search.

Cleo's reply:

Thank you so much for your interest. Marc and I have great respect and appreciation for libarians. You are the keepers of the literary flame, and we admire your work greatly.

I am happy to provide a link HERE for you to our latest Large Print release, BREWED AWAKENING, though you can purchase it at many other sites, this one is on Amazon.

You will find many large print (aka "library binding") copies available (in new and used format) on Amazon. You can also directly contact our large print publisher for help in purchasing our backlist of titles.

Our print and digital publisher is Penguin Random House, and they sublicense the Large Print Rights to another publisher: Thorndike Press.

CLICK HERE for the Thorndike Press website. We ask that you contact them with any questions or requests for purchases of our back list. Thank you for your diligent and caring work and for your kind interest in ours.

Warmest wishes...

Merci beaucoup!

Merci beaucoup!

Hello there! I'm Rohana, i'm from France, and reading your books for the first time now (caus' there will be a second and a third at least, I already know that.) I want to thank you for amazing reads, with style, flair, and a real connection to interesting and complex caracters.

It's been a while that I enjoyed a good mystery, after a ten year streak of Miss Marple, Adam Dalgliesh or Brother Cadfael. Your books are really up there with those grand authors, that much that I'm even gonna encourage my mom to read them, and she's a picky reader! Of course, the fact you manage to reunite all my loves in one (and those being cats, coffee and good books) is just another plus.

So just go on please, caus' since I'm sort of stuck home right now because of that nasty virus,I have really too much time on my hands, and need the entertainement!

Thank you again, merci tout plein.

Cleo's reply:

Merci, Rohana!

My husband and I appreciate that you took the time and trouble to find our message board and leave such a lovely note. You made us very happy to know that our characters are keeping you company all the way across the Atlantic in beautiful France.

We hope you are staying safe and sane at this difficult time, and that our books will continue to entertain you. Please give your mother our best. We hope you will both keep reading and keep in touch!

South African abseil!

I love looking up information that I read about in your books! So today, when Matt tells Clare about the “rope trick” that Perla performed (in Dead Cold Brew), I found a YouTube video showed me how it’s done. You guys are amazing!

Thanks for the journey,

coffee machines

what are your thoughts on coffee pods and coffee machines such as the Keurig? is it possible to get a good cup of coffee from a pod?

Cleo's reply: The convenience of single-brew pod machines is loved by many and very popular. It's really a matter of convenience, and you do pay for it (the cost of buying pod-coffee is 2 to 9 times more expensive than buying it by the pound). Pre-ground coffee can also go stale very quickly and not be a "great" cup by anyone's definition. Enjoy it if you like it and appreciate the convenience. However, if you're looking for the best cup of coffee (and a more economoical way of making and drinking it), buy freshly roated whole bean coffee from a reliable roaster (someone who sources beans well and roasts them often), grind them yourself at home, and brew them in a manner that you like best (whether that is auto-drip, pour-over, French press, or espresso). If it all seems too much, then visit a coffeehouse like the Village Blend and have an expert make your a delicious cup. That's why Clare is in business, LOL!

Reading order

Do I need to read them in a certain order to understand the books? I’m really interested in them but only have Dead Cold Brew and Dead to the Last Drop.

Cleo's reply:

Hello! In answer to your query, you don't need to read the Coffeehouse Mysteries in order to understand what's happening. I always make sure our characters are introduced with enough background so that new readers are not lost.

And if you like DEAD COLD BREW and DEAD TO THE LAST DROP, you can go back to the beginning of the series to see how it all began and read more about the backgrounds of our characters. Both of the books you have are exciting and timely reads (because of the subject matter), and I hope you enjoy them enough to continue reading more of our popular series.

Wishing you java joy...

Brewed Awakening

I just borrowed the book from Stapleton SI NY library and went right to the recipe section (being a fan of the series). Hope it's only my copy but this book is missing two pages, goes from page 332 to page 335 (jumps from the beginning of 'Candied Pecans' to instructions for a chicken dish.

Cleo's reply:

I'm sorry to tell you that someone removed the pages from your library's copy of Brewed Awakening. Our book is not missing any pages. Someone who borrowed the book before you removed those pages, most likley to keep a particular recipe. And I know exactly which recipe was on those pages. It's a very good (and rare) one!

Over the years, I've heard from readers about this happening every so often. Recipe pages are removed from our Coffeehouse Mystery library copies and kept by patrons who've borrowed the book. I don't know whether or not they realize that they are defacing the book and ruining the experience for readers who borrow it after them. It's a shame.

This also sometimes happens when readers buy a "used" book. (Buyers beware. You may be saving a few dollars when you buy used Coffeehouse Mysteries, but you may not always be getting a complete recipe section.)

Again, I know this because we hear from readers who complain about this issue, but there is nothing we can do.

If I were you, I would report the missing pages to the library staff. Perhaps they can replace the book and/or try to find out who (before you) on the lending list defaced the book. I hope that helps!
