Wow - A Dutch Baby Recipe I Can Live With !!
Cleo - OMG - A Dutch Baby Recipe that does NOT require six people to enjoy! You are the BEST!
I just recently got married (Feb 13) and this is what I have wanted to make my new husband - THANK YOU - please post this - I KNOW there are women like me who need YOUR recipe - thanks SO MUCH.
Cleo's reply --
Congratulations on your wedding, Michelle.
I baked a virtual wedding cake so we can all celebrate with you!
I'm also happy to re-post the Dutch Baby recipe you mentioned. (See below.) I'm delighted to know that you're going to make good use of it. I hope you and your new husband enjoy it...
Cook with love, eat with joy!
Forget the cast iron skillet. I'll show you how to make this classic, giant, popover pancake in a cake pan. Recipes included for classic lemon-sugar and my own cocoa-cappuccino variation.
I just finished The Ghost and the Dead Deb. It was great!!!
Now I am beginning Roast Mortem and haven't been able to put it down since I started it last night. I think I'm going to have to buy a second kindle for my 11 year old so she can read all about Jack by herself She has a serious crush on him.
Anyway before I start rambling, I just wanted to tell you once again how much I enjoy BOTH of your series of books. Thank you so much and keep them coming.
I would like to respond to whoever had wrote the message (above). I think it's cute that Jack has an 11 year old female admirer. lol. :) Rosa
re response (responding to the above...)
Rosa Jack has responded a couple of times to her. She was so excited that we printed off the responses and she took them to school to share with her class. I just finished Cleo Coyle's Roast Mortem Omgoodness was it ever good!!!! So now that I'm finished with that series til the new one comes out I can concentrate on Pen and Jack for a while
re re response (responding to the above)
i think that's sweet for Jack to do that. lol. i've been in your daughter's position of developing a serious crush a character.
re re re response (responding to the above)
I'm all for anything that will get my girls to read even half as much as I do. She told me the other day that since she has "met" Jack she hasn't had any bad dreams. Sure hope Pen doesn't get jealous ;)
re re re re response (responding to the above)
Pen's going to get jealous? i'm not so sure about that. i'm sure she'd be content knowing that Jack is actually being unselfish and kind enough to do something like that especially for someone else. Rosa
Quick note to you both: As you can see, I re-pasted your conversation so it's easier for others to read.
LOL - it was a pleasure to read your notes. Thank you both and thank you especially for your love of my books: The Coffeehouse Mysteries and the Haunted Bookshop series.
BTW - Murder by Mocha, the 10th book in the Coffeehouse Mystery series is now finished! It will be out this August.
Jack, the PI ghost, is working hard with me on the next book in the Haunted Bookshop series, which will be out early next year, and we can't reply any more than that right now, but we did want to thank you!
(We're especially touched that Jack has helped scare away a certain girl's bad dreams. Thank you for sharing that -- it's amazing to know.)
For everyone else...
More to come soon at this site on The Ghost and the Bogus Bestseller, the 6th book in the Haunted Bookshop mysteries, a series that brings together a prim, young widow named Penelope ("Pen") who runs a mystery bookshop that happens to be haunted by the ghost of a hard-boiled private eye named Jack (who was gunned down in the building over fifty years before).
This series is a cross-genre blending of cozy and hard-boiled mystery traditions with the newer subgenre of paranormal mystery. Read more about this series by visiting my Haunted Bookshop page on this very web site. Just click here -- if you dare...! :)
"Spirited" good wishes to all!
I bought books 1, 2, 3, 4...
Cleo I bought myself books 1 2 3 & 4 for Christmas...(deleted text) I have started reading this series and can not wait to finish it so I can get to the next book. I have to catch up with the rest of your fans. Thanks in advance for any help. C. W. Brooks

Cleo's reply -
C.W. - a quick reply. Thank you so much for your support of my work. I hope you enjoy your trips to Clare's Village Blend. :) Please note: I deleted some of your post because that question should be asked of a bookseller. (No author could help you answer a question like that one, I'm afraid!) I do hope you understand and won't be upset by it. Once again, I'd like to thank you for the lovely words and taking the time and trouble to drop by my message board. Come on back anytime for a hot, fresh cuppa! ~ Cleo
Loved the book
I just finished (literally about 3 minutes ago) On What Grounds. LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I plan to read the whole series and am sure I won't be disappointed. I don't drink coffee (maybe twice in my whole life). I love coffee flavored things, but this book makes me want to try a real cup of coffee. Thanks for the awesome read!
On What Ground: Book #1
of The Coffeehouse Mysteries
#1 paperback bestseller
Thank YOU for the awesome message. I'm so go glad to have you as a new *customer* of Clare's Village Blend coffeehouse.
You'd be surprised how many people tell me they love my coffeehouse mysteries -- even though they don't like coffee one bit! Of course, Clare Cosi, my amateur sleuth, is also a fantastic cook (having learned quite a bit from her Italian born grandmother) and throughout the series, she cooks up a storm (as well as weathering a few, too).
Thank you so much for dropping by. I hope you continue to enjoy the series as it progresses and come on back now, y'hear? :)
forgot to mention
I forgot to mention that I'm still debating who would play Penelope. that might be a tough one as I noticed that she wasn't mentioned at all. this message and message below were writen by me. Rosa
Cleo's reply to come soon...
coffee and book characters and tv series/movie
I was watching NCIS on USA yesterday and at the beginning of this episode the credits of some actors/actresses, in the episode, were rolling at the bottom of the screen and one of the actresses' last name was Coffee. Her first name-Claire. What are the odds of that? I actually began to wonder if she owned her own Coffeeshop. LOL!!! Last Wednesday, I was in my Psychology class and a classmate was talking about how Parkinson's Disease runs in her family and that she had done research and she found out something very interesting about coffee and its effects on Parkinson's Disease and I found this article backing her up: A Hawaiian study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (May 2000), has shown that of 8,000 Japanese/American men, those who drank 3+ cups of coffee per day were 5 times less likely to develop Parkinson's disease. The study took place over a 30-year period. The theory is that caffeine is reducing the amount of neurotransmitters produced by the brain, transmitters that may actual do damage to surrounding brain tissue. The actual action of caffeine in the brain is not known. It may also interfere with uptake of other transmitters, allowing the levels of dopamine to increase. I was skimming through all pages looking at what people wrote on this message board and I noticed that there was a debate over who would play Jack if the Haunted Bookshop series were made into a movie or television show. Here's my opinion: Why not just cast an actual PI to play the role of Jack? There would be no need for the actor to learn from script how to be a PI when the actor already knows how to do it because it's his everyday job/career.

Clara made a delicious sounding marinade using coffee - I think it was for beef. Does anyone have that recipe? Was that recipe posted?

I have clicked on other links and they work fine, but I cannot seem to get signed up for your Newsletters. V Weseloh Watertown SD
Cleo's reply - Hi there. Actually, all you have to do is send an e-mail that says "sign me up" to VillagBlend@aol.com You will then receive an automatic reply, which will confirm to you that you are all signed up for my weekly free coffee drawings.
A winner of free coffee is selected at random every week from this list, which also subscribes you to my free E-newseltter. The newsletter only comes out a few times a year. Just be sure to give me an active e-mail box -- one that you check every so often. I've had several winners who never replied to my notifying e-mails and that's too bad. They lost!
You'll only win coffee from me if you reply to my e-mail informing you that you've won this week's drawing. I won't send to any address unless I get a confirmation from the winner via e-mail first.
I hope that helps you.
Wishing you java joy!

Cleo's reply: Dear A2 - I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to it!! :)
Have you thought about compiling a recipe book to publish? It would be great as the "Coffee House/Haunted House Cook Book". Anita
Cleo's reply: Hi Anita, thank you for dropping by my *virtual* coffeehouse. That's a wonderful idea. Maybe someday! Right now my writing schedule won't allow that, but it would be a fun idea for the future. Thank you for suggesting it, and thank you especially for reading my books. It's the best gift you can give to any author.
Cook with joy,
Thanks for the reply! I can eagerly anticipate in peace now! :) Jack-Alice(Cleo) is already on a writing deadline and she doesn't need more stress coming from you. You need to let her work in peace and harmony and at her own pace. So, here's 20 dollars. Go to a bar and buy yourself as many drinks as you can with the 20 dollars....Oh wait, you can't with or without Pen and that buffalo nickel can you? You can only go out on the town only in Pen's dreams, right? Hahaha! That's too bad for you and you're lucky that I'm "calling" the police on you for breaking and entering in my home. Alice(Cleo)-I know for a fact that I'm the only one in my home that has read your Haunted Bookshop Mystery Series. There was a time when I went on my dad's computer to check my email and I noticed right away that at the bottom of the screen by the start menu was a tab for this website. And I know that I didn't go on this website the night before. I think Jack somehow, I don't know how, was responsible. You need to keep a tighter leash on Jack and make sure he doesn't do it again. LOL!!!!
Alice (Cleo) the message above is from me.

I LOVE this website!! I have not read any of your books, but after reading the reviews on Amazon, I have ordered the first one from my library and bookmarked the rest!!
Cleo's reply - Why thank you! And welcome to my virtual coffeehouse. I hope you enjoy your trip to my fictional shop in the Coffeehouse Mystery book that you're about to read.
Come on back anytime. I post recipes often and enjoy talking here with my readers. We'll have a hot cup o' joe waiting for you.

Cleo's reply -
You are more than welcome. Thank you for your interest in my books!
To those of you wondering what "link" we're talking about, you can click it below if you like. The link takes you to Amazon's US search for the Coffeehouse titles on Kindle. We had a discussion about this on the message board (scroll down to read more -- look for the cover of French Pressed).
Cleo's reply - Oh, you made my morning! I'm so glad you like the title (Murder by Mocha) and are anticipating the book's release. This one was a lot of fun to write -- I can only hope you find it as much fun to read.
Just wanted to say thank you for your's and Jack's response to my post on Feb.3. My daughter was so excited that she went to school today and told her teacher that she and her mom got a reply from an author and a ghost that said she was "cute as button" you made her day.:) Thank you again
Cleo's reply -
Oh, that's wonderful! You just made MY day! Hey, I told Jack. He laughed. Then he said...
Hey, baby, maybe I should tell Pen to call up that cute little girl for a...(what does your generation call a rendezvous with the sandbox set - oh, yeah, a playdate). Pen's tike Spencer would probably like that...
Jack, Pen and Spencer are fictional characters and this little girl is real, so that won't work. Besides, Spencer is way too old for "playdates," but it's a nice thought.
Okey-doke. I guess they'll just have to read about Pen and Spence in your books...and see me in their dreams, just like Pen...
Thanks, Jack. I'll let them know. :)

Again, I'm so sorry! Stay tuned for more cakes in the future on this site. In the meantime...

Kindle availability in EUrope
Hi Just wondering when,if and why the 1st 2 mysteries are available to Kindle in Europe not 3,4 but then 5 and 6... Sorta wanted to read in order and would like them on my Kindle-will this ever be possible?
I meant the coffeehouse mysteries, sorry for the lack of clarity.
Coffeehouse Mystery #6
#1 Paperback Bestseller,
You're right. While this series can be enjoyed out of order, my longtime readers tell me they've gotten lots of pleasure out of following the character arcs from book to book (and watching Clare's romantic life progress) by reading the series in order. I wish I had a good answer to your question. I'm sorry that I do not. As a consumer, I will simply suggest that you click over to Amazon's USA URL (web address) and download from that site. Below is the URL to get you started, and I hope that helps because I have no other answer.
I know this next suggestion will sound like lame corporate-speak, but maybe you should contact Amazon Euorpe customer service and request that they carry the books you want. A request from a single consumer might not mean anything to them. But, for all we know, there are many more readers like you out there, making that request. (One can only hope!)
thanks sincerely for your interest!
Excited in Colorado Springs, CO
Hello, Cleo we just found out that you have a new McClure mystery coming out in March. My Mom and I have read all the other ones. Our family went through a really difficult time and your books were a great help and outlet. I never thought about Googling you. I'm so happy we finally did. Can't wait for the new one.
Cleo's reply: Hang in there! The Ghost and the Bogus Bestseller will be coming out next year at this time. Click here and scroll down to learn more...
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Recipe?
Just wondering if you happen to have a favorite oatmeal raisin cookie recipe..have made the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe and it was a big hit!! Many thanks, Laura
Thanks, Laura! Indeed I do have a favorite recipe. It's a healthier version of the typical oatmeal cookie. I reduce the flour, using more oatmeal by creating oatmeal flour (very easy to do using a blender, just see the recipe on that). I also cut the sugar and the fat, replacing part of the usual butter with applesauce, which brings a lovely apple flavor note to blend with the oats and raisins. AND I glaze them with a bit of my maple glaze. These are outstanding with a hot cup of joe. I hope you enjoy them as much as the Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies.
To get my "Healthier Oatmeal Cookie" recipe CLICK HERE, the document will appear in a free, illustrated PDF that you can print, save, or share.

Hi Alice, Last night while still snowed in, I finished a book I started reading earlier in the week. I then went to amazon.com and downloaded The Ghost and Mrs. MCClure. It is absolutely wonderful!!!!! I started reading it aloud to my 11 year old and even SHE loved it. I started that one only because I only have 2 of the Coffeehouse Mysteries to read before I finish the series and I always like to save the best til last....one problem I may never finish either series if I do that since BOTH series are WONDERFUL!!!!! :)
CLEO'S (ALICE'S) REPLY: Thank you! You made my week with that message. The writing life has its ups and down but readers like you (and your daughter!!) make the downs worth working through. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to let me know. It truly means a lot to me.
Wait! The ghost of Jack is in my ear. What's that, Jack? He has a message for you. I'll type it up...
You're aces, baby. Thanks for droppin' by my joint and cheerin' up the dame who scribbles my stories. Oh, and thank that cute-as-a-button daughter of yours, too. Nice to know I have a fan in the next generation (of the living). Drop back anytime. Till then, stay out of trouble. From what I can see, you air-breathers seem to get into plenty...
Okay, Jack, I think that's quite enough.
Hey, baby, just get back to writin', will ya? My public is waitin' on my next case!
You heard him.
I'd better get back to work.
thanks again. :)
